Accessibility & Inclusive Use Guide — GoClubPro

Training Module 46 | Using the App with Assistive Technologies and Accessibility Needs

What This Guide Covers

How to use GoClubPro with assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation, text resizing), workarounds for accessibility limitations, and guidance for club admins on supporting members with different access needs.

Primary audience: All users; especially members with visual, motor, or cognitive accessibility needs Secondary audience: Club Admins who want to support all members equally

SECTION 1: VISUAL ACCESSIBILITY

Text Size

GoClubPro respects your device's system text size settings.

iPhone:

  1. Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size → drag slider larger
  2. Or: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text → enable "Larger Accessibility Sizes"
  3. GoClubPro text scales with these settings

Android:

  1. Settings → Display → Font size → drag to larger
  2. Some Android versions: Settings → Accessibility → Font size

Desktop:

  1. Browser zoom: Ctrl+ / Cmd+ to increase text and page size
  2. Recommended for GoClubPro: up to 150% zoom works well
  3. Beyond 150%: some navigation elements may stack differently

High Contrast / Dark Mode

GoClubPro follows your device's appearance setting:

iPhone: Settings → Display & Brightness → Dark mode Android: Settings → Display → Dark mode Desktop: Your OS appearance setting (Windows: Settings → Personalization; Mac: System Preferences → Appearance)

If high contrast is needed beyond dark mode:

iPhone:

  • Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Increase Contrast (✅ recommended)
  • Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Reduce Transparency (may help readability)

The app will reflect these settings automatically.

Screen Readers

iPhone — VoiceOver:

  1. Enable: Settings → Accessibility → VoiceOver → On
  2. Triple-click Home button to toggle quickly (Settings → Accessibility → Accessibility Shortcut)
  3. GoClubPro's main navigation, buttons, and forms are labelled for VoiceOver
  4. Known limitation: some data tables (e.g., Accounting ledger) may read cell by cell without context headers — use Landscape orientation for better table navigation

Android — TalkBack:

  1. Enable: Settings → Accessibility → TalkBack → Use TalkBack
  2. Swipe right to navigate elements; double-tap to activate
  3. GoClubPro core actions are TalkBack compatible
  4. Same table limitation applies as VoiceOver

Desktop — NVDA / JAWS / Narrator:

  • GoClubPro is a web application with semantic HTML — major screen readers navigate the page structure correctly
  • Headings are properly structured (H1 → H2 → H3)
  • Form labels are associated with inputs
  • Buttons have descriptive labels (not just "click here")

If you encounter an unlabelled element: Report it via Feature Requests (or platform support if critical to a workflow).

Colour Blindness

GoClubPro uses colour to indicate status (green = paid, red = overdue, orange = blockout). For users with colour vision deficiency:

Status identification alternatives:

  • Payment status: also shown as text ("PAID", "OUTSTANDING", "PENDING")
  • RSVP status: also shown as icon + text label
  • Injury badge: also shown as icon + colour (red circle)
  • Blockout: shown as calendar icon + orange colour

If colour is your primary cue and you're having trouble distinguishing status:

  1. Browser: use a colour accessibility extension (e.g., Chrome's "Color Enhancer")
  2. Or: look for the text label alongside the colour indicator

SECTION 2: MOTOR ACCESSIBILITY

Keyboard Navigation (Desktop)

For users who navigate by keyboard rather than mouse:

ActionKeyboard shortcut
Navigate between elementsTab (forward) / Shift+Tab (backward)
Activate a button or linkEnter or Space
Close a modal/dialogEscape
Navigate dropdown menusArrow keys

GoClubPro's primary workflows are keyboard-accessible:

  • ✅ Login form
  • ✅ Dashboard navigation
  • ✅ Schedule → RSVP
  • ✅ Payments → Bank Transfer / Declare Paid (fully keyboard accessible)
  • ⚠️ Squad Builder drag-and-drop: keyboard alternative is to click the player → click the Add button (if available). If drag-and-drop is the only method, report as an accessibility issue.

Switch Access (iOS)

For users with motor impairments using a switch or head pointer:

  1. Settings → Accessibility → Switch Control → On
  2. GoClubPro works within Switch Control's automatic scanning mode
  3. For complex interactions (Squad Builder), scanning may take more steps — no workaround currently available; consider having someone assist with squad selection

Voice Control (iOS / Android)

iOS Voice Control:

  1. Settings → Accessibility → Voice Control → On
  2. Say "tap [button name]" to activate buttons
  3. Say "show numbers" to overlay item numbers and say the number
  4. GoClubPro's buttons and links have descriptive names that Voice Control can target

Android Voice Access:

  1. Settings → Accessibility → Voice Access → On
  2. Similar function to iOS Voice Control

Reducing Motion

Some users experience discomfort from animations:

iPhone: Settings → Accessibility → Motion → Reduce Motion → On Android: Settings → Accessibility → Remove animations (or similar, varies by device)

GoClubPro respects the "prefers-reduced-motion" OS setting — animations are reduced or disabled when this is active.

SECTION 3: COGNITIVE ACCESSIBILITY

Simplified Workflows for New or Cognitively Diverse Users

For members who find the full app overwhelming, here's the minimal path to do the most important things:

Just to RSVP (for a player who only needs to do that):

  1. Open app → Schedule
  2. Tap the upcoming fixture
  3. Tap "Going" or "Not Going"
  4. Done — 3 taps

Just to pay a fee:

  1. Open app → Payments
  2. Tap Pay Now next to the fee
  3. Enter card details
  4. Done

For members who get lost: Print out the Quick Reference Cards in Module 21 and give them a physical copy.

Timeout Considerations

GoClubPro sessions may time out for security. For users who need more time to complete forms:

  • The fee declaration form (with receipt upload) has a longer timeout than the main app session
  • If the session times out mid-action, the user is returned to the login screen — no data is lost from completed fields
  • For users who frequently time out: enable the "Remember me" option on login (if available) to reduce frequency

Simplified Language Notes

GoClubPro uses plain language throughout. However, some financial terms may be unfamiliar to newer users:

Term in appPlain language explanation
OutstandingNot paid yet / still owed
ReconciliationMatching a bank payment to the right fee
AgingHow old an unpaid bill is
Season PlanOne payment for the whole season's match fees
RSVPTell the coach if you're coming
BlockoutDates you can't play
Declare as PaidTell the app you paid by bank transfer

Admins: Consider sharing this glossary with new members in your first welcome message or Noticeboard post.

SECTION 4: LANGUAGE ACCESSIBILITY

GoClubPro is available in English only at this time.

For clubs with multilingual membership:

  • Browser translation: Chrome and Edge can auto-translate web pages — right-click → Translate to [Language]
  • iOS Safari: Settings → Safari → Translation → add preferred languages
  • The translation quality for sports management terminology may vary

Admins supporting multilingual members:

  • Provide key instructions in translated form via Noticeboard posts or PDF documents distributed outside the app
  • Consider assigning a bilingual Co-Admin who can communicate directly with members in their preferred language
  • The Quick Reference Cards can be translated and printed

SECTION 5: ADMIN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ACCESSIBLE CLUB MANAGEMENT

Supporting Members with Accessibility Needs

As Club Admin, you may receive requests from members who need assistance:

Member needAdmin action
Can't pay online (no card, no internet)Bank transfer option → Declare as Paid
Can't use app at allAdmin can record attendance, fees, RSVP on their behalf via Admin Panel
Visual impairment — can't read appEnsure the member's RSVP is managed by a family member or carer via a linked account
Cognitive difficulty managing paymentsTreasurer sets up a payment plan; marks fees manually each time
No smartphoneAll features accessible via desktop browser — provide the web URL

Inclusive Communication

When composing Noticeboard posts and Broadcasts:

Do:

  • Use short sentences and paragraphs
  • Use plain language (avoid jargon)
  • Use bullet points for lists (not run-on sentences)
  • Add alt text description when posting images (if the platform supports it)
  • Keep subject lines clear and front-loaded with the key information

Don't:

  • Use all-caps for emphasis (harder to read with dyslexia)
  • Use colour alone to convey meaning in broadcast messages
  • Write walls of text — use paragraphs of 2–3 sentences maximum

The "No Smartphone" Member

A proportion of members (often older players or parents) don't have smartphones. Options:

  1. Desktop browser: All features of GoClubPro are accessible at the web URL on any desktop or laptop. Share the URL.

  2. Proxy management: A family member or the Club Admin can manage their RSVP, payments, and profile via Admin Panel → Members → select member → manage on their behalf.

  3. Phone-based support: Some clubs designate a committee member to phone and relay schedule/selection information to non-smartphone members. This is outside the app.

  4. Print-based schedule: Admin Panel → Schedule → Export CSV → format as a printed schedule and mail/hand to members who don't use the app.

SECTION 6: REPORTING ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES

If you find an accessibility barrier in GoClubPro:

How to report:

  1. Feature Requests (if it's a missing feature — e.g., "Squad Builder needs keyboard alternative to drag-and-drop")
  2. Platform Support (if it's a bug — e.g., "Button has no label for screen reader")

What to include:

  • Assistive technology you're using (e.g., VoiceOver on iOS 17)
  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened instead
  • Which screen/page the issue is on

GoClubPro is committed to improving accessibility — your reports help prioritise fixes.

FAQ

Q: Is GoClubPro WCAG compliant? A: GoClubPro aims for WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. Known gaps (e.g., drag-and-drop alternatives in Squad Builder) are on the improvement roadmap. Report any barriers you encounter via support.

Q: I use an older Android phone (Android 8/9). Will the app work? A: GoClubPro supports modern browsers. Android 9+ with Chrome is recommended. Older Android versions may experience layout differences but core features work.

Q: A member has a significant disability and needs full assistance managing their club participation. Can a family member manage their account? A: Yes — a family member can create the account, manage RSVP, pay fees, and update the profile. For juniors, the Family Hub (Module 14) is specifically designed for this. For adult members, the family member logs in with the member's credentials.

Q: Our club has Deaf members. Are there any specific considerations? A: All notifications are visual (push, email, in-app) — there are no audio-only alerts. The app is fully functional for Deaf users.

SHORT ONBOARDING SCRIPT

"GoClubPro works with your device's built-in accessibility features — text size, dark mode, and high contrast all apply automatically. Screen reader users: VoiceOver and TalkBack work for most features; the Squad Builder drag-and-drop is the main limitation — use the click-to-add alternative if available. Keyboard users on desktop: Tab to navigate, Enter to activate. No smartphone? The full app works in any desktop browser. And if a member needs help managing their account, the Club Admin can manage settings on their behalf from Admin Panel."
